We have diverse experience and are laser-focused on developing profitable sustainability strategies. Our project experience includes sustainability strategy consulting, energy efficiency, facility science and operations, big data analytics, marketing, brand development, financial analysis, LEED projects, lighting efficiency, renewable energy projects, and retrofit management.

Our Co-founders met at Columbia University's Earth Institute while earning a M.S. in Sustainability Management, an innovative program that integrates traditionally separate fields: business strategy, engineering, architecture, design, policy, ecology, and finance.

Adam Freedgood

Co-Founder & Strategist: Innovation & Marketing

Adam develops close partnerships with high-growth commercial and nonprofit organizations by tailoring innovative sustainability programs to the individual business situation of each client. With senior management experience, Adam is a natural problem solver and strategic advisor. He provides leadership teams and managers with futuristic insights on how to capture the full business value of sustainability initiatives. Adam holds a M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a B.S. in Marketing from Penn State. Adam's industry experience spans nonprofit development, manufacturing, print and digital agency services.

John Haugen

John Haugen

Co-Founder & Strategist: Green Buildings & Big Data

John produces insights and solutions to key organizational challenges. He is a full-cycle resource that combines raw data with empirical intuition and industry insights, resulting in a strategy that is greater than the sum of its parts. From carbon footprint management to green building project development to portfolio-wide energy analytics, John's top focus is creating value. Over his career he has worked with organizations in the financial services, mobile apps, telecom, restaurant, retail, media, and NGO spaces. John is a LEED Green Associate, earned a B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University, and was awarded an Innovation Scholarship from Columbia University while earning a M.S. in Sustainability Management. John is also a startup Mentor with Cleantech Open, the world's largest cleantech startup incubator.

JD Capuano

Strategist: Sustainability & Analytics

JD solves business problems. His advisory is informed by a history of project implementations to walk the line between what's practical and innovative. His experience combines strategy, sustainability, analytics, marketing, and leadership. JD has a diverse history of roles ranging from being an intrepreneur at a medium-sized company to being in a management position at a Fortune 200 company to being an entrepreneur and consultant. He has worked with organizations in healthcare, e-commerce, high tech, furniture, non-profit, and government. JD teaches about the intersection of data, analytics, and business at Bard College's MBA in Sustainability. JD earned an M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a dual B.A. in Business Administration and Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.

Kristina Alnes

Kristina Alnes

Sustainability Advisor

Kristina develops innovative solutions to unstructured challenges. She has worked with Fortune 500 clients and large foundations in the US, Europe and the Middle East to analyze environmental and social data, engage stakeholders and set strategic direction. Kristina has a diverse background spanning management consulting, environmental project management and academic research. She has consulted with AccountAbility, the Triana Group and EY. She has developed and led cause-marketing projects as the Head of Marketing at a Food Systems non-profit in her native Norway. She has contributed to several whitepapers and is a co-author of the publication Employment implications of stricter pollution regulation in China: theories and lessons from the USA. Kristina has a Master of Science in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.

Michael Cook

Michael Cook

Strategist: Communications & Reporting

Michael advises large firms on sustainability/CSR strategy, CSR reporting, materiality, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications. Michael consulted for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and worked as a Research Associate for Winston Eco-Strategies supporting a corporate sustainability benchmarking platform. Prior to that, he led strategic business development and marketing across a network of 22 offices for a global humanitarian relief organization. He began his career leading large-scale volunteer programs for Cisco, Levis, Gap, and Charles Schwab. Michael holds a M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a degree in Communications from UCSB.

Matt Codner

Matt Codner

Co-Founder Emeritus: Energy & Project Management

Matt is an experienced consultant and project manager, with specialty in lighting and energy efficiency retrofit management. He has worked at Closed Loop Advisors, Lutron Electronics, and US BioEnergy. He earned his LEED AP O+M, and received a B.A. from New York University and a M.S. from Columbia University. Matt served in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer Officer from 2001 through 2005 and is a veteran of the Iraq War.
